Union Cabinet approves the Tata-PSMC semiconductor fab at Dholera — ₹91,000 crore

On 29 February 2024, the Union Cabinet approved India’s first commercial semiconductor fabrication unit — the Tata Electronics–PSMC fab at Dholera, with an investment of approximately ₹91,000 crore and a proposed capacity of 50,000 wafers per month using 28nm node technology. Two more projects were approved the same day: Tata’s OSAT in Assam and the CG Power–Renesas facility in Sanand.

Why it matters to Dholera: this is the single largest endorsement in the region’s history — the flagship project of the India Semiconductor Mission, anchored at Dholera. Everything from land allocation to the supplier ecosystem flows from this approval.

What came next: groundbreaking within two weeks (March 2024), the technology transfer agreement in September 2024, and the supplier ecosystem of 2025–26.
