Ground broken: PM Modi lays the foundation for India's semiconductor era at Dholera

On 13 March 2024, Tata Electronics held the groundbreaking for its Dholera fab, with PM Modi virtually laying the foundation stone for three semiconductor projects worth ~₹1.25 lakh crore under the India Semiconductor Mission. Construction of the fab shell and civil works commenced on the ~1,000-acre site. The same PIB release (PRID 2013904) also documents DICDL’s trunk-infrastructure progress — roads, utilities and activation-area works — running in parallel.

Why it matters to Dholera: this is the milestone the entire programme had built toward — shovels in the ground on India’s first private commercial fab, with the city’s trunk works advancing alongside it.
