From regional landscape to planned node
Dholera’s contemporary story is shaped by its position in the Bhal coastal plain and by the state’s effort to create a new industrial and urban node rather than expand an established metropolitan centre. That greenfield ambition is also its central challenge: infrastructure, environmental protection and social transition have to be designed together.
The modern revival
The Dholera Special Investment Region became a flagship project in the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor story. The planning framework imagines a large, connected industrial city with manufacturing, logistics, utilities and supporting social infrastructure.
These are long-term planning ideas. Their public meaning changes as projects move from announcement to approval, construction, commissioning and operation. A historical page should explain the arc without turning the arc into a promise.
Dholera and Lothal
The modern Dholera story sits near one of Gujarat’s most important archaeological landscapes. Lothal deserves its own evidence-led treatment because heritage significance cannot be used as a shortcut for proving commercial or financial outcomes.

Now that the place and story are clearer, the next step is to understand the master plan: what it attempts to organise, what it does not prove and how it relates to the present.
